Tablets for Textbooks in Schools

We all know that textbooks were first used long time ago. Until now, we still use it as a medium of instruction. It is doubtful if these will totally be replaced by digital technology reading tools, but there are now perceptions that virtual literacy may very well ease out textual print literacy.
We never ran out of books inside our home. Before I went to kindergarten schools, I already had my books since my mother is a school teacher. She taught me many things with the use of the available books in our house. Until I reached my kindergarten days, I was able to have more books for our lessons. But during high school, books had been expensive since I was studying in private school. I could still clearly remember that the most costly book in my entire high school life was the Physics which outlays Php 700.00 and the cheapest book costs, Php 120.00 which was our Values book (Our Journey). Until now, books in college are still for sale. I’ve never experienced yet using tablet as our textbook inside the classroom but I already experienced using it whenever I study or read something, or even research for something.
Textbook has been a great help to humankind, but as we notice nowadays, it is gradually vanishing in some school because of the technological advancement. But we could not deny the fact that tablets also contribute to the progress of an individual learnings.
As to the application, I will be introducing tablet as means of learning inside the learning area. But, I will not forget that books are more important than gadgets even if we say that tablets are advanced.

Educational Technology 2 Practicum

It is important for us as professionals-in-training or even for professionals that we know some basics about the application and proper usage of technology as what was indicated in the Educational Technology 2. In this lesson, students were taught how to use the diiferent Mincrosoft Office program. These basic programs like, the Microsoft Word which helps and individual to edit or insert a particular text or document, another is the Powerpoint presentation where you can create a presentation fo a particular project of assignment, and the Exel wherein we teachers can compute the grades of our students out of hassle.
I've already gone through all these programs. From Microsoft Word up to Excel. We were actually printing documents day by day for our requirements. It became a normal thing to use the programs since we are after of the outcomes-based instructions in our school.
I've realized that through this programs, my work as a student is somehow becomes a bit easier, we depend on the computer just to finish whatever task we may have. But it doesn't mean that we will depend thoroughly on it, we should also find alternative ways.
As a future teacher, I will be inculcating my students on the proper yse of the programs. But since most of them are already equipped in such favor, maybe I'll just let them do on their own and facilitate them for further knowings.

The Internet and Education

According to the Wikipedia, the Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet Protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link several billion devices worldwide. It is anetwork of network that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as mobile apps includingsocial media apps, the inter-linked hypertextdocuments and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mailmultiplayer online gamestelephony, and peer-to-peernetworks for file sharing.
Internet gives us pleasure in a way that we were able to use it as a means of connection and communucation to everyone. I've already experienced using the internet since the day I learned also how to use the computer. I was able to use it prior to my schooling, whenever there were projects and assignment that need further explanations then I immediately go the internet even if it will cost me alot.
Internet really helps a lot if individuals, ut makes everyone's work easier. With just one click of a particular site, in a wink of an information will fastly appear. Time will come, internet will become free here in the Philippines.
As to the application, I would be using internet as an effective source of my teachings to my students. I will indulge them the propor use of if because some of them are already abusing it.

UNDERSTANDING HYPERMEDIA

From the Educational Technology I course, the student has already become aware of multimedia or an audiovisual package that includes more than one instructional media (means of knowing) such as text, graphics, audio animation and video clip.
Hypermedia is nothing but multimedia, but this time packaged as educational computer software where information is presented and student activities are in a virtual learning environment. Most Educational IT application is hypermedia and these include:

●         Tutorial Software Packages
●         Knowledge Webpage’s
●         Simulation Instructional Games
●   Learning Project Management and Others
The presentation of information-learning activities in hypermedia is said to be sequenced in a non-linear manner, meaning that the learner may follow his path of activities thus providing an environment of learner autonomy and thinking skills. This fact makes it therefore important to understand hypermedia in the educational context in order to ensure their successful integration in the teaching-learning process.
I've already experienced lot of things using the hypermedia. I was able to make videos out of the program Cyberlink Power Director, we were taught in our Educational Technology class.
Using this hypermedia is a good thing since we will be able to access text, sounds, or video images through it. It ould becomd easier for us to create or present videos.

Since the students nowadays are already inclined to such favor of the different hypermedias, I would be asking or requiring them in the future to create their own video regarding on whatever lessons we may have, but appropriate for the video to be made.

The Software as an Educational Resource

Software is a program tha tells a computer what to do. There are two kinds of software, the System Software and the Application Software. System software refers to an operating system that is found or bundled inside all computer machines while the Application software contains a system that commands the particular task or solves a particular problem.
It ws during high school when software programs were officially introduced to us. We were exposed to these things in order for us to create our task conveniently. One example of these is the Microsoft Windows.
I reflected that this software program is actually very important because wuthout it, we could not use our computers. It would then be useless.
I will be using this program for my future use in my future career. I would devotedly share what I've learned about it to my students, but since we all know that students in the next generation are coined to be more advance, then my role would br a facilitator to them.

Cooperative Learning with the Computer

Cooperative Learning
Cooperative or collaborative learning is learning by small groups of students who work together in a common learning task. It is often also called group learning but to be truly cooperative learning, 5 elements are needed:
1. common goal
2. interdependence
3. interaction
4. individual accountability
5. social skills

Cooperative Learning and the Computer
Researchers have made studies on the learning interaction between the student and the computer. The studies have great value since it has been a long standing fear that the computer may foster student learning in isolation that hinders the development of the student's social skills.
Now this mythical fear has been contradicted by the studies which show that when students work with computers in groups

Components of Cooperative Learning
Education are still wary about the computer's role in cooperative learning. Thus they pose the position that the use of computers do not automatically result in cooperative learning. There therefore assign the teachers several tasks in order to ensure collaborative learning. These are:
1. Assigning students to mixed-ability teams
2. Establishing positive interdependence
3. Teaching cooperative social skills
4. Insuring individual accountability, and
5. Helping groups process informatio
In our class, we've already experienced lots of collaborative activities with the help of the technology. We were able to come up with ideas that would surely help us improve more on our upcoming tasks.
It is a good lesson to be discussed, because I know that cooperative learning makes learners learn more. Technology like computer makes studies easier. So that, if the learners collaborates with the computer the more the knowledge will be acquired by the learners. In summary, collaborates with computer makes the learning easier and meaningful. In here, the action of each student affects the others in a group. Cooperative learning is an affective strategy that can be use to integrate in the computer activities to promote the competencies of the learners.
As a future teacher, letting my students to work collaboratively will help them create ideas and outputs better than an individual's idea. I should be exposing them in such activity soon.

Information Technology in Support of Student-Centered Learning Classroom

The idea of student-centered learning is not a recent idea. In fact, as early as the 20th century, educational educators such as John Dewey argued for highly active and individualized pedagogical methods which place the student at the center of the learning process.
In this lesson, we shall see how the teacher can expand his options to make himself more effective and relevant in the 21st millennium information age. In addition, suggestions shall be made on how a student-centered classroom (SCL) can be supported by information technology (IT).

The Traditional Classroom
It may be observed that classroom are usually arranged with neat columns and rows of student chairs, while the teacher stands in front of the classroom or sits behind his desks. This situations is necessitated by the need to maintain classroom discipline, also they allow the teachers to control classroom activities through lecture presentation and teacher-led discussion.
Noticeably, however, after spending so many minutes in lesson presentation and class management, students can get restless and fidgety. Often enough, the teacher has to also mange misbehavior in class as students start to talk among themselves or simply stare away in lack attention. To prevent this situation, teachers often make students take time to work individually on worksheets can help the situation.
Another option is now presented and this is adopting the idea of developing students to be independent learners with the end of making them critical and creative thinkers.

The SCL classroom
John Dewey described the traditional learning process in which the teacher pours information to students learners, much like pouring water from a jug into cups. This is based on the long accepted belief that the teacher must perform his role of teaching so that learning can occur. This learning approach is generally known as direct instruction, and it has worked well for obtaining many kind of learning outcomes.

The problem with the direct instruction approach to learning, however, is the fact that the world’s societies have began to change. Of course, this change may not be strongly felt in many countries in which the economy longer depends primarily on factory workers who do repetitive work without thinking on the job. The traditional classroom and direct instruction approach to learning conform to this kind of economies.
In contrast, industrialized societies we find knowledge based economies in which workers depends on information that can be accessed through information and communication technologies (ICTs). Desiring to gain effectiveness, efficiency and economy in administration and instructions, schools in these developed economies have also adopted the support of ICTs. Their students have now become active not passive learners, who can interact with other learners, demonstrating independence and self-awareness in the learning process.
Generally the new school classroom environment is characterized by student individually or in group:
·         Performing computer word processing for text or graph presentation
·         Preparing power-point presentation
·         Searching for information on the internet
·         Brainstorming on ideas, problems and project plans
·     As needed, the teacher facilitating instruction, also giving individual instruction to serve individual needs.
Observably, there is departure from traditional worksheet, read-and-answer, and drill-and-practice activities. Students also no longer need to mark the test of peers since the computer has programs for test evaluation and computerized scoring of results.
Given this trend in teaching-and-learning, it must be pointed out, however, that traditional classroom activities-especially in less developed countries-will continue to have a strong place in the classroom. In spite of this setback experienced in some countries, the option has now been opened for the modern teacher to shift gears to students centered learning.
